Now that we've got three airships running and hope to get a fourth opened fairly soon, we've decided to let members with Flare Warrior rank and better have access to the airships to set up trips to the Diadem. If there is an airship in dock, members of this rank can now set up a party of their own and travel to the Diadem on the airship without the help of an officer.
Details are below!
Small groups can go to the Diadem to gather rare materials, or to look for abandoned treasure; a full group can go there to fight monsters for loot drops. The monsters are quite tough and drop pink quality gear at levels 150 (bronze chests), 180 (silver chests), and 210 (gold chests.) Only the highest ranked monsters drop the gold chests, and your chance of receiving one depends on your group's DPS, which is why smaller groups are not efficient if you are looking to score level 210 gear. Also, the secondary stats on the gear drops are randomized, so you might get a good piece or a mediocre piece, depending on your luck.
You should take a group of at least two players with you, because in order to fly in the Diadem you need to find the air currents each time, which means you will need to decoy the powerful monsters away from the currents in order to be able to use them to fly. However, once this is done, players can leave at any time by using the "Leave" option on the Duty Finder, so you could take a friend in to help you get the currents, then the friend could leave, if you so chose. The Diadem only needs to be mapped once; the layout doesn't randomize each trip, only the location of the air currents.
In addition to the possibility of getting some wearable gear, if you get gear you don't want to use, you can turn it in for "Spoils," which can be traded for various useful items including Grade V Materia, and, if you get 99 of them, a Pegasus mount. Spoils traders are located within the Diadem itself, at the Ishgard Diadem gate, and at the entrance to the housing areas.
Upon entering the Diadem you will get a list of Objectives. Completing a subset of those will grant you some Tomes of Esoterics, with the number depending on the Diadem difficulty you selected.
To enter the Diadem, every member of the party must be at character level 60 and item level 179, and must carry one tank of Mission Ceruleum as a ticket. These are green-colored gas tanks purchased with Company Credits. A stack of these tanks will be kept in the third tab of the Company chest for member use.
You may bring non-FC members along on the trip with you freely.
If you have any more questions, please talk to an officer, and have a Delightful Diadem!
